About fucoidan

What is fucoidan?

Fucoidan is a kind of natural polysaccharide with viscosity contained in seaweeds such as Mozuku and kelp, and its content in Mozuku is relatively high. It was first discovered by Swedish scholar Kylin in 1913 and named “fucoidan”. This sticky ingredient is an important component in seaweeds, as it helps to repair damaged tissues and prevents seaweeds from drying out when the tide goes out.

Natural ingredients that help the body regain its natural healing abilities

Fucoidan protects seaweeds from pollution, bacteria, viruses, etc. It also improves our body’s defense ability and restores the immune system to normal. At the same time, fucoidan also has the effects of anti-blood coagulation, anti-tumor, inhibition of neutrophilic fat, anti-allergy, and improvement of liver function, which restores the natural healing ability that our body originally possesses to normal. These effects have been clarified in academia. Fucoidan is the most highly regarded natural ingredient in alternative medicine and is also used in cosmetics. Recently, there have been reports on television and in magazines, and fucoidan has gradually come to the attention of the public.

History of fucoidan

  • Discovered in 1913 by Kylin, a Swedish scholar.
  • Fucoidan, contained in brown algae, consists of alginose, xylose, galactose, and glucuronic acid (some species of brown algae also contain mannose).
  • In 1996, the 55th Cancer Society of Japan announced that fucoidan has the function of inducing natural apoptosis in cancer cells, and it has received widespread attention since then.
  • *Acts on the genes of cancer cells, causing them to divide, preventing them from proliferating, and inducing their natural apoptosis.

History of fucoidan

Requirements for functionality

King Tonga Natural Seawater

Although fucoidan can be extracted from several raw materials and there is no significant difference in its main ingredient, alginose, fucoidan from King Tonga’s Sea Currents has the highest fucoidan content, is of the best quality, and is the safest due to the cleanliness of the water and the naturalness of the Sea Currents. Fucoidan has a polysaccharide structure (consisting of monosaccharide molecules bonded to each other), and in order to perform its function, the molecules need to incorporate a certain amount of sulfate groups or more.

Stabilized structure with more than 13% sulfate group content

According to our research, fucoidan molecules need to have a stable sulfate group content of more than 13% to protect mucous membranes, inhibit inflammation, and stimulate “intestinal immunity” on the surface of the small intestine, thereby activating immunity. Although fucoidan is attracting a lot of attention nowadays, in order to fulfill its function, the molecule must have more than 13% of sulfate groups.

Fucoidan content of seaweeds

The sticky-smooth, moisturizing ingredient of seaweed

It is often said that sticky food is good for the body. Seaweeds such as kelp, wakame, and seaweed are very popular as healthy ingredients that are close to us. Seaweeds survive in the harsh natural world by secreting a sticky substance, and among the components of that substance, fucoidan plays a role in preventing invasion by bacteria and other external enemies, repairing damaged areas, and restoring natural healing power.

Function of fucoidan

Effect・Therapeutic effect

Fucoidan has a cell-activating effect. It prevents the breakdown of collagen, which maintains the elasticity of cells, and hyaluronic acid, which stores water, from being oxidized, thus preventing the formation of wrinkles. Fucoidan also prevents the formation of dark spots by blocking the action of melanin-forming endothelin. Moreover, fucoidan has anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects, effectively caring for the skin. In addition, fucoidan has the effect of improving the blood circulation system, anti-cancer, anti-metastasis, improving the immune system and preventing various lifestyle diseases. The effects of fucoidan have been reported by various research institutes, and in particular the prevention of lifestyle diseases has been clarified.

  • Cellular activation
  • Maintains skin elasticity and moisturization
  • Anti-allergy and anti-inflammation
  • Activates of immunity

Efficacy of fucoidan

Immune activating effect

Fucoidan has an immune activating effect. It improves physical fitness by restoring and enhancing the natural healing ability of humans, and also prevents and improves lifestyle diseases such as allergies. Fucoidan travels from the surface cells of the intestinal tract, flows through the bloodstream, and travels throughout the body. Unabsorbed fucoidan also stimulates “intestinal immunity” as it passes through the surface of the small intestine, thus improving immunity. Our intestines are able to determine what substances should be absorbed, digest and absorb the useful substances, and then excrete the waste products, thus protecting our body from foreign substances.
Lymphocytes in the blood play a major role in the body’s immune cells, which are most abundant in the small and large intestines and are also called “intestinal immunity. Fucoidan stimulates the antibody-producing cells, and through the lymphatic vessels, the immune function is transmitted to the whole body so that the immune function works properly.
When the immune system is abnormal, the body cannot metabolize the wastes in a timely manner, so it is easy to get food poisoning, flu infection, etc. It is also easy to induce roughness and dryness of the skin, acne, eczema and oral inflammation.

Induction of natural apoptosis in tumor cells

In order to maintain the good condition of an individual, the natural death of cells internally according to a well-defined program is called natural apoptosis. The phenomenon of a tadpole’s tail disappearing on its own as it grows is also a form of natural apoptosis. Cancer cells, viruses, and other abnormal cells also die naturally when the immune system is normal, but if there is an abnormality in this control, cancer cells and other abnormal cells will proliferate instead of dying.

Protects mucous membranes in the body by reducing helicobacter pylori

Fucoidan protects the mucous membranes in the body. The sulfate group in fucoidan stimulates the mucous membranes of the stomach and encourages gastric activity, and it also reduces the helicobacter pylori, which is one of the causes of stomach ulcers.
Fucoidan passes through the throat, stomach, and intestinal tubes, where it adheres to the mucous membranes and works.

>Reduces Blood Pressure and Serum Neutral Fat

Fucoidan lowers blood pressure and serum neutral fat, cleanses the blood and maintains healthy, young blood vessels. At the same time, it can activate the enzyme lipoprotein lipase, which is capable of breaking down neutral fats, lowering serum lipids and reducing LDL. Clean blood can stop the occurrence of hyperlipidemia and diabetes such as atherosclerosis.

Natural moisturizing ingredients nourish the skin

Feedback from workers who washed Haiyun that their hands became moisturized and their skin became smoother once again brought home the power of Haiyun. That’s because the moisturizing function of fucoidan on seaweed also works in human skin. Fucoidan combines fully with the skin to form a moisturizing protective film on the skin’s surface, thus protecting the skin from dryness allergies and other substances that irritate the skin. In addition, its antioxidant action prevents the skin from losing its elasticity, while its healing effect on damaged areas helps us to take care of perfectly smooth skin.

Creating a rust-free body

The sticky-slip component on the surface of brown algae protects the brown algae against bacteria and reactive oxygen species brought about by strong ultraviolet rays of the sun, thus achieving antioxidant effects. As we age, the body’s antioxidant capacity becomes weaker against reactive oxygen species, and the excess reactive oxygen accelerates the aging of the body. This is the reason why blood vessels harden, become clogged, blood flow deteriorates, and spots develop after UV exposure. Everything is like rust. The antioxidant effect of fucoidan can help us create a rust-free body.

How to choose fucoidan

Fucoidan content

A wide range of fucoidan products are sold on the market. How to choose? One of the indicators is the fucoidan content. Most products contain other ingredients in addition to fucoidan, and the content of the product is not the same as the fucoidan content.
